Next week’s Chris Merritt shows: Richmond, VA HERE, Northern VA, HERE. Also, Brooklyn, New York, HERE.
Recording has started! After lots of writing songs, arranging, rehearsing, hustling, it’s finally time. Now the hard work begins.
Brett and I tracked drums in the studio all morning before hunching back into the bitter freeze. New songs, old new songs, and new old songs.
Scheherazade is finally close to being arranged after five months or so. It’s going to be……epic, beautiful, ridiculous. If, of course, it doesn’t fall flat on it’s face….many of these new songs feel risky…..which is a good thing…..but is why I’m insisting on doing close to thirty before choosing the record’s playlist. That might not be “rational” or “humanly possible”, but I’m doing it anyway. New songs The Itch and One Man To An Army are exciting my inner fake vibrations.
Here’s a couple (random) snippets of sketches/demos I have sitting on my desktop. The Dirty Girls have been working hard to make these into something legendary…

Really like what I’m hearing, especially that bit tune awesomeness in the middle there. Excellent stuff!
Cool stuff!
I don’t know where to put this; but I had a dream you played in Raleigh, NC in an alley behind a warehouse. You came on and I was hoping you’d play “Such a Long Time Ago” to open and you did and I went crazy. You also had the most ghetto setup ever – no amps, just a battery-powered keyboard and your voice with no microphone.
Already excited as it was, this just adds more fuel to the fire. Any chance we’re still going to see a kickstarter for the album? Loved it when you did the different packages for Demos of Nod and I’m ready to fork over some more moolah.
I love that middle one!! Such a great groove!
Can’t wait
That bottom tune has marvelous melodic content and harmony.
Yes!! The 8-bit sound is back!!
Man i love your music. and the musician is pretty dang cool too. I can’t wait for your new stuff!! I am planning on using it to get through LABOR(don’t puke)!! Which is in June (surprise if u hadn’t heard)…so you better have it ready by then. Miss u buddy old pal.
Wow. That third one reminds me of my childhood when I used to obsessively listen to Scheherezade. I loved that piece. I’m so excited to hear your rendition.
