Hey, how are you?
There’s been a great response to the music I wrote and recorded in a recent Time Warner commercial. Here’s the video link! I’ve been convinced by the hugely positive reaction to do a full-length version of the song…
At first, I was concerned that doing a full-length version of the song would ultimately be incapable of living up to people’s expectations. It’s already on a pedestal. Often, it’s wise to remember if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
On playing around with arrangement ideas, however, I really got into it. Melodies and lyrics just jumped out at me, and it’s been a very creative, natural process. I’m working with a great producer on the single track, and so far it sounds great. We’re looking to finish the track by the first week of October, when it will be available on iTunes and Spotify and everywhere else.
It’s going to be a solid tune when it’s done! Think Ben Folds meets Brian Wilson meets…Darwin Deez?
And in the meantime – any Chris Merritt fans have any similar track ideas for recent converts? Here’s a link to the spot – leave song ideas in the comments! “Quinn”? “Show Me What You’re Made Of”? What else? (Links encouraged!)

HOORAY!!! I am SO excited that you are making this wonderful clip into a full song! I can’t wait until October to buy it!!! YAY!!
I’ve been looking for this song everywhere. I’ve been trying to show many people since no one knows what I’m talking about. Such a great song. Can’t wait to hear the finished product.
Wow!! Can’t wait for the full version…really pulls at the heart strings. Having two sons one in college and one starting this brings back great memories.
Great job!!
Good for you! There are a lot of people searching for the song online right now. It’s impressive to have created music that is all at once up-tempo, thoughtful, and moving, in just 30 seconds, and it works perfectly in the ad. Whatever Time Warner paid you, they got more than their money’s worth. Best of luck with the full-length single!
Please don’t over-think it or deviate from the original flavor… It is a slice of perfection!
The music is peppy and catchy, but your vocal tone and progression is what makes it for me.
so excited that you are doing a full version! Very talented.
first thing i thought of when i heard it was darwin deez, glad to find something so similar cause its AMAZING
Awesome..I will buy 10 of em…
To me Bleach and Dr. Jerk are up this alley as well.
On my own?
Although it’s not much like the one in the spot they should like …
Sanctuary
… much (IMHO :p )
Rock on!
ooh awesome! I believe it will be amazing ^__^ have faith in yourself!
Dude. I am so glad you posted the link for this. I have never paid attention so much to the commercials when I heard you had done this. I agree with @christopher that Time Warner is getting a still of a deal having you write for them.
Your song is GREAT!…beautiful, sweet sounding voice…calming yet full of life…best of luck to you…
Hi,
I am also in love with the Time Warner commercial theme song! I am looking forward to hearing the full length track. Two thumbs up! Good luck on all your future endeavors. You are very talented!
Sincerely,
Gennie
Thanks so much for the link to the commercial. I just showed it to Lucas and he loved it… and now I can forward to friends & family that haven’t seen it. Please keep us posted on the song
Chris,
Can’t wait to hear this new stuff. For you to mention Brian Wilson (whom I friggin love – I practically worship Pet Sounds and Today!), then mention Ben Folds (whom I also enjoy greatly), and then to name-drop Darwin Deez (I consider his first album to be one of the best in its year) makes me absolutely excited. Not enough people have listened to Darwin Deez – I can’t wait to hear what he makes next.
Hm… which Merritt song to hear first. The first song I heard by you was “It’s So Sad” off of Pandora. I was intrigued and then found some more stuff on Grooveshark. Then I was hooked and bought all of your music within a month’s time. I’d recommend one of “Show Me What You’re Made Of”, “Such a Long Time Ago”, or “Dr. Jerk”, as mentioned earlier.
By the way, Chris, my improv team is coming to Richmond this weekend so we’ve all contributed 30 songs for our road-trip playlist. We choose 1 to be our secret song and if your secret song is played first, folks buy you dinner. I always choose my secret song to be my favorite song on the list. For mine, I chose “Show Me What You’re Made Of”. This beat out some of my favorites like “Brother Sport” by Animal Collective, “Leading Me Now” by Tallest Man on Earth, and “Hello Goodbye” by The Beatles. Word!
Chris.
First week of October ended yesterday. Still waiting for that track.
What’s your twitter username? So I can blow up your twitter too. LOL!
As a long time fan, I added your name to Notemare (using grooveshark) just hoping you’d be there. And there you were. Hats off to you, sir.
Awaiting the full tune, like everyone else I suppose.

I looked for “Your moment” on itunes but can’t find it!! Is it done yet??:)
Any, and everything on Pixie and Hello Little Captain. Those albums were my college soundtrack from 2006 – 2010 here at Arizona State. Chicks loved it, dudes loved it, everyone got down to it. Also – how about a little rendition of FAMILIAR FACES by PAPERFACE! Classic tune.
