I write songs.  I am a songman (pronounced like longshoreman).  I used to number them all and organize them in smell-good spiral notebooks, but I lost track sometime a couple years ago, at around 1,250.

You don’t have to worry about all that, though.  Research proves that people are less happy with their decisions when they have too many choices.  Our world of infinite choices is already watering down your human experience, and I refuse to add to it.

Choose from the above five songs.  Feel good about your decision.  Try another.  If you feel closer to some sort of objective goodness, then maybe the time has come to sample the hundreds of bizarre ditties that have been birthed of my depressed mind’s contractions.  Additional instructions follow.

Did you make it?  Congratulations.  Prefer visual stimulus?  Look at these music videos.  Prefer albums?  Download this free ‘best of’ album I threw together.

And now I present you with the official Chris Merritt albums.  Virginia Is For Hoverers (2009), Demos Of Nod (2009), Pixie And The Bear (2008), and Hello, Little Captain (2007).

You can trust me to deliver the latest in cutting edge human tragedy.  I’m paying attention and you can be sure that I’m weaving the mysteries of the solar system, evolution, physics, and philosophy into some sort of prophetic or retarded quilt.  I’ve fallen flat on my face over a thousand times but at least I’m out there trying (I might suggest that you take another look at the popular songman in your pocket, because he or she might be cheating on you).  You need not worry about your decision:  come back to this music time and time again and rest assured that these are the most honest and dirty sing-alongs that unfathomably complicated hydrogen atoms currently have on offer.

Virginia Is For Hoverers (Part I) (2009)

This record was made in a huge rush with no budget.  Do you miss the Era Of Heart Swell Gut Wrench Rock?  Tracks were engineered using off-brand iPod headphones after a day of hard manual labor.  This was the last Virginia album, before packing and moving to NYC.  Hence the stupid title.

Demos Of Nod (2009)

Another over-the-top double-disc, filled with heartbreak and emotion.  How embarrassing.  Made entirely by the artist in his boxer shorts in Virginia in a state of shell-shock, despair, and utter contentment.  I long to play The Ocarina Of Time in the air-conditioned smell once more, with the garden of Eden, sauna-like at the door, with every ilk of domestic animal.

Pixie And The Bear (2008)

Dual rotaries, each painted with cartoons and etched from the center out with rousing melodies set to peculiar phrases.  At first polished and glossy, later meandering and over-confident, and finally falling apart and holding on for dear life, this double-disc mimics the lifespan of most empires.  Recorded in Provo, UT with the most tight trio known to man.

DownloadThe Ascension

Dismal, uplifting, Virginia-styled Los Angeles rock and roll music, brimming with emphasized melodic content and performed and recorded with the finest personnel and equipment that LA County has to offer.  I mixed this myself mostly.  A great man named Carlos mixed three tracks and tracked most of it, and for the change in my pocket, bless his heart.  I almost died making this record, but it was only loosely related.

Demos
There is an endless supply of hastily-recorded and humiliating home recordings that sometimes find their way onto the internet.  Although the exact number is currently unknown, there are over 1,000 to collect.

Check out some music from my old bands, Upperville, and the infamous, life-changing, and infinite (at least to a few generous-shovel-fulls of people), the original, Paperface. Don’t accept cheap imitations.
