Another World

Another World

from Chris Merritt:

Virginia Is For Hoverers (Part I) (2009)

Where do you go to seek it?
When all fools chase gold and claim the secret
All I do is regret when I sell my soul to try and reap it

All my life I’ve been sculpting these crystal palaces in the snow
But it gets cold

What do you think it’s worth?
When do you get your home?
When do the people sing the songs you wrote?
I see it in all my dreams
I hear it in all my work
I want to be new before I get too old
I know it might sound shallow, but can you turn your true love to gold?

I dropped it in my cereal
There’s Cocoa Pebbles in my cellphone
I tossed it in the ocean
This cold, cold burn and I get so lone

What do you think it’s worth?
When do you get your home?
When do the people sing the songs you wrote?
I see it in all my dreams
I hear it in all my work
I want to be new before I get too old
I know it might sound shallow, but can you turn your true love to gold?

I’ve been in another world for a long time
I’ve been in another world for a long time

This had a demo version which is totally different and cool – Brett Ripley played drums and Jake Thro did bass. This was one of the first recordings we did together in that version of the trio. Check out that version in “Media”.

Skye Zentz sang background vocals on this. Brett and Jake also played on this version, obviously.

I want to re-do this song as I have a different, Daft-Punkish idea for the ending.

The original demo done with Jake and Brett – some things on this I really like:
