Dr. Jerk

Dr. Jerk

from Chris Merritt:

Pixie And The Bear (2008)

disc one

Turning me inside-out with just one phone call
Filling my head with doubt
It made me sick all day
It’s not that either one of us is angry, it’s just that we refuse to conquer demons

Baby, but I want to find out why we do this to each other every night
Baby, if you want to find out, you should decide if I’m worth putting up a fight

Because after all, we’re all we’ve got
You’re pouring out the doorway and you’re looking sad, yeah
I want to go, I want to stop
You’re pouring out the doorway and you’re looking sad and well I’m freaking out
Yeah, not that I’ve never gone crazy

I swear to you we won’t do this again
I swear to you I won’t swear this again

Baby, I know this hurts, and that’s my sorry
Baby, I’m Dr. Jerk, and that’s my sorry
I thought we understood that I was crazy
I can’t believe you thought I was a sane man

Baby, but I want to find out why we do this to each other every night
Baby, if you want to find out, you should decide if I’m worth putting up a fight

‘Cause after all, we’re all we’ve got
You’re pouring out the doorway and you’re looking so so sad
I want to go, I want to stop
You’re pouring out the doorway and you’re looking sad and well I’m freaking out
Yeah, not that I’ve never gone crazy

I swear to you we won’t do this again
I swear to you I won’t swear this again

Original demo in “Media”.

The ending synth solo on the album cut took me three days of playing and editing to piece together. I am exceedingly proud of it. I wish I had done a bit more “out” stuff on the solo, it’s all very tonal, but oh well. Maybe it works.

The original has a cool solo in it’s own right, which was just straight up improvised. I re-used a couple of the lines.

Original demo:

Before I left Salt Lake City, there was one thing I had to do. Make a music video with Stephen Groo of Utah Wolf Productions.

Do yourself a favor and watch all of his films and previews.

Wes Nease starred as Dr. Jerk and as you can see he is a talented actor. The story is riveting, sad, and ultimately beautiful and inspiring.
