from Chris Merritt:
Virginia Is For Hoverers (Part II) (2010)
Today it’s a brand new year, you can start again but / I get nervous when you call / When you call
Yeah, it’s a brand new fear, and I’m looking at you but / I get blurry when you’re drunk / When you’re drunk
Margaux, I think you know there’s no point crying over love / But Margaux, I keep on seeing your face, I keep on hearing your voice, I keep on wishing you were here
Have I been blind? / Blind
Hey, I was on my way / When I think about you I get randy as a motherfucker / And I miss you
Margaux, I think you know there’s no point crying over love / But Margaux, I keep on seeing your face, I keep on hearing your voice, I keep on wishing you were here
Margaux, I think you know there’s no point dying over love / Margaux, I keep on seeing your face, I keep on hearing your voice, I keep on wishing you were here
Have I been blind? / Blind / Have I been blind? / Blind all this time / Have I been blind? / Have I been blind? / Blind all this time / Have I been blind? / Have I been blind? / Blind all this time
This song was originally called Sarah. There is no Sarah. Sarah is a lie.
Months later I was watching a show in Richmond and this beautiful girl was standing there by herself. Usually it’s a fantastic disaster when I try and cold-sell women on my worth as a human being, but we immediately became friends. She is a singer. Years later, I realized that this song was about her all along. Somehow I had written it about her before we even met.
The subtleties of our friendship and the metaphors within the song lyrics won’t be disclosed, but it’s all there, and it makes my heart hurt to sing it.
